Proofreader

Your Writing Dept has an immediate need for part-time/on-call proofreaders. Projects may range from two to three weeks. Work may need to be done over weekends and at night depending on the nature of the project. Because this work must be done under tight deadlines, flexible shifts are available.

Candidate requirements:

• Applicants must be able to work in the Sacramento/Folsom, California area.
• Must be able to read aloud to a proofreading partner for an extended period of time.
• Must be able to read fine print for an extended period of time while a proofreading partner reads source material.
• Should be familiar with standard proofreading marks.
• Must be very detail-oriented.
• Must be able to work flexible shifts to help meet tight deadlines.

Technical Writer

Your Writing Dept has an on-going need for writers who can work independently on writing projects with varying degrees of complexity. If you have at least five years experience working with user guides or product manuals, we would like to hear from you. Our projects tend to vary in scope and required skills, so joining our team may help broaden your skills and experience.

Required skills:

• Software skills such as: MS Word, Acrobat, FrameMaker, InDesign, RoboHelp
• Industry knowledge such as electrical engineering, manufacturing or state contracts
• Ability to work remotely from client's location
• Ability to work with little supervision
• Possess the ability to quickly research, gain competence in, and write about technical processes and tools
• Have the creativity and expertise to generate new ideas for developing engaging user manuals and product guides
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members from various disciplines and backgrounds, as well as client-based SMEs

• Minimum five years solid writing experience with a portfolio to back up your claims
• BA/BS degree in journalism, English, or other writing disciplines
